Colder temperatures are around the corner, and some of us are not looking forward to it! Whether you love winter or not, Sassyfras Boutique inside Eising Greenhouse and Garden Centre has the cozy, stylish clothes you need to look your best and stay warm all season long.
Fall, winter, and spring can all bring unpredictable weather to our corner of southern Ontario, so layering is key. Winter is an especially good time to follow the 3-layer rule:
Creating a winter capsule wardrobe makes dressing warm and stylish easy and stress-free. Here are a few ideas to get started:
Start with a basic tee, a long-sleeve mock neck, or a long-sleeve crew neck top. Choose natural fabrics that wick moisture and keep you dry.

Tights or leggings make a great foundation under dresses or pants for added warmth.

For warmth, add a sweatshirt, a crewneck sweater, a v-neck sweater, or a turtleneck.

If you’re stopping at two layers, choose a chunky knit or oversized sweater for a cozy statement look.
On top of your tights or leggings, try a faux-suede skirt, faux-leather pants, wide-leg trousers, jeans, or a dress, maybe even a comfy sweater dress.

Top it all off with an eye-catching outer layer! Try a bomber jacket, blazer, faux-fur jacket, puffer vest or jacket, or a trendy coatigan for warmth and style.
What makes an outfit really stand out? The accessories! At Sassyfras, you’ll find everything you need to complete your winter look.

From belts (perfect for cinching a blazer or dress) to trendy handbags, classic tote bags, sunglasses, and a wide selection of everyday jewellery, including locally made, one-of-a-kind pieces. You’ll find the perfect finishing touches that reflect your personal style.

Once you’ve built your base, mid, and outer layers, the fun begins! Mix and match your pieces to create new combinations that make winter dressing simple, cozy, and chic.
With just a few well-chosen items from Sassyfras, you’ll be ready to step out in style, no matter how cold it gets! ❄️

What do we love most about fall? EVERYTHING! The weather, the harvest of fruits and vegetables, the pumpkin-spiced everything, and last but not least, the fashion! If your fall wardrobe needs an update, we have a spectacular collection of new releases available now at Sassyfras. Here are some wardrobe staples you'll need to stay cozy, cute, and contemporary as the temperatures start to dip.
When the weather is transitioning from cool to warm, you need good layering pieces and stuff you can mix and match. Chilly mornings turn into warm, sunny afternoons, then back to chilly once the sun goes down. These easy, comfortable pieces are effortlessly stylish—never frumpy! Find them all at the Sassyfras Boutique at Eising Greenhouse in Simcoe.

It's kind of a shirt, kind of a jacket—it's the shacket! This versatile layering piece is suitable for indoor or outdoor wear, so it's definitely a worthy addition to your fall wardrobe. It's much more stylish than your standard pullover sweatshirt or a flannel button-up. With textured, cozy materials that are perfectly plush, these bad gals scream "fall fashion!" For something neutral, try our cream-coloured teddy bear shacket, or go for our long-line plaid shacket for extra colour and flair.

Spaghetti strap sundresses are one of our favourite wardrobe essentials for summer, and you can transition them into fall by wearing a plain white or black tee underneath! You might remember this look from the '90s, but just like Winona Ryder, it's making a huge comeback 30 years later! Our layering tees are soft and silky—never stiff or too thick, so they won't get bunched up underneath your sundress.
Layering tees are also great for tucking into jeans with a printed statement coat overtop—you never have to worry about clashing when you're dealing with solid monochrome palettes.

While we're not sure we'll ever be ready for the return of ultra-low-rise denim, the ultra-high-waist look isn't for everyone either. Mid-rise denim is having its moment, and we have plenty of styles with straight or skinny legs for a tailored look that's easy to dress up or down. A good quality pair of denim is hands-down the most crucial fall wardrobe essential, so make Sassyfras your first stop if your current jeans look a little worse for wear.

Once the weather gets chilly, seeing everyone wearing the same plain black puffer jackets can be kind of a bummer. Liven up your fall outdoor wardrobe and show some personality with our gorgeous printed parkas! From florals and botanical motifs to cute polka dots and geometric prints, we have a fantastic selection of printed parkas in versatile, neutral colours to match all your everyday outfits.

Chunky, cozy sweaters are perfect for crisp autumn days. If your old sweaters are starting to look pilly or lumpy, it's probably time for a wardrobe refresh. Our monochrome striped sweater is one of our favourites from our fall wardrobe collection. Narrow horizontal stripes can often widen the frame, especially on a loose, chunky sweater. Our striped sweater has wide, bold stripes that look more like colour-blocking for a flattering fit that looks fantastic over skinny jeans and leggings.

With so many neutral tones and monochromatic wardrobe staples for mixing and matching, accessories are the perfect opportunity to add pops of colour! Printed pashminas are perfect for draping over a tee shirt in the daytime or covering a sleeveless dress or blouse in the evening. Long, beaded necklaces with colourful stones and crystals look stunning over a sweater, elevating a casual look into something sleek and put-together for work. Our gold tassel leather handbag is a perfect finishing touch for your fall wardrobe—it goes with everything, and its warm gold accents complement the beautiful autumn scenery!
Visit Sassyfras Boutique and explore our entire collection for even more Fall outfit ideas for 2022! We have plenty of new releases and end-of-summer sale items to revamp your wardrobe for this fashion-forward season.
Spring cleaning is on everyone’s minds this time of year—few things feel more refreshing than clearing out old junk and making room for new and exciting things! After a long stretch of working from home and staying cooped up indoors all winter, we’re eager to give our closets a spring overhaul. No more scrubby sweatpants and pyjamas all day—it’s time to step into spring feeling cool and confident with some gorgeous new additions for your closet.
Take an afternoon off, grab an iced coffee and put on a fun, pump-up playlist! It’s time to clean our closets—out with the old, in with the new. But before you toss any old clothes in the trash, take the mindful approach and consider how you can purge your closet while also doing some good for the community.
Removing all the old stuff from your closet and tossing them in the trash won’t do much good—those pieces will just end up in a landfill. Here are some tips for giving back to the community and our environment while you clean out your closet:
Once you’ve made some space in your closet, visit the Sassyfras Boutique to find new pieces you’ll love!
The best items in your closet are the ones you can mix and match, day and night. Here are some must-have spring items from Sassyfras that deserve a spot in your closet.
Is there anything more versatile than a well-tailored pair of straight-leg jeans? Wear them with a cute tee for a casual weekend, or fancy blouse for date night, or a fun, printed kimono and tank top for parties. It’s worth investing in a good quality pair—they’ll last for years longer than cheap jeans that could bust at the seams while you’re busting a move.
If you’re ready to leave your sweatpants in 2021 but still want to stay comfortable and unrestricted, you absolutely have to try bamboo leggings. The breathable, natural material is eco-friendly and sustainable, and the materials are so flattering. They don’t always look like casual activewear—black leggings can look super chic if you pair them with a breezy blouse or a peplum top.
If you’re dying to wear that cute, strappy sundress, but the spring weather is still a bit chilly, layer it onto a white or black dressy tee! This ‘90s look is back in style and feels fresher than ever. On casual days, slip on some jeans and do a French tuck with your tee (tucked in the front, loose in the back) and add a chunky statement belt. Effortlessly chic!
Chilly spring mornings can quickly turn into hot, sunny afternoons, so cardigans and jackets are clothes closet essentials! Look for pieces in universally flattering colours that match almost everything: white, grey, black, and navy or royal blue. Avoid wearing denim jackets the same colour as your jeans, or you’ll be sporting the not-so-chic “Canadian Tuxedo.”
When your wardrobe consists of easy-to-match pieces in solid colours and neutral tones, you have so much freedom to express yourself with cool accessories! Try hats and purses in cute spring pastels, chunky belts to jazz up a tee shirt and jeans, or chunky earrings and necklaces. Silky scarves are great, too—you can tie them around your neck or onto your purse!
The Sassyfras Boutique at Eising Garden Centre is bursting with gorgeous new spring items just waiting to find their new home in your closet. Visit us soon to see all the newest pieces in our collection!
‘Tis the season for fireplaces, warm drinks, family pictures, and comfy clothes! With time off and lots of eating on the agenda, it’s important to be both comfortable and stylish this winter. Whatever your style, incorporate cozy to make this holiday season merry and bright.
Typically, “cozy” clothes include leggings, warm fuzzy boots, and an oversized sweater or cardigan. Cozy is similar to fall attire but with a stronger priority on comfort and warmth.
Of course, you can adapt this to your own style and what you prefer to wear. At the end of the day, cozy means comfortable—and whatever that looks like is entirely up to you. Everyone celebrates the holidays differently; naturally, everyone will be dressing differently too!
If you want some inspiration for new ways to dress up your comfy clothes, keep reading! The key is layering and using oversized pieces that are soft to the touch.
Consider our puffy brown vest over our charcoal grey sweater with jeans and sheepskin boots, for a casual look. Add a toque or a scarf for extra warmth!
If you want to feel like you are walking around in a warm blanket all day, opt for leggings with an oversized knit cardigan! Add some jewelry or a vibrant scarf to elevate the style and keep it from being slouchy.
For the guys, try one of our flannel tops with jeans and a white T-shirt underneath. Add a hoodie or a puffy vest over it to add that final ‘comfort meets style’ polished appearance.
Pants or a fitted skirt paired with a knit cowl neck sweater is the epitome of elegance and coziness! If a sweater is too warm, try a long cardigan open over a white shirt. Add jewelry and a touch of glitter to your makeup for extra elegance and Christmas sparkle.
Let’s face it, we need a stretchy waistband for holiday meal enjoyment, so consider these vegan leather leggings that are classy and comfortable, a satisfying compromise between restricting jeans and overly casual leggings.
For the men, consider nice jeans and a well-fitting sweater or a button-down shirt, untucked with the sleeves rolled up for comfort. If you want something a little warmer, try a knit sweater over jeans and one of our Henley long sleeve shirts.
Formalwear is a little tricky to bring the cozy component into! The little things help when you’re trying to be comfortable all night long at a business holiday party.
For the gents, consider a light sweater underneath your suit jacket instead of just a button-down and a tie. You can also layer the sweater over the button-down and under the jacket—whichever combination works for you!
Of course, there is no event quite as special as opening gifts with family and loved ones on Christmas morning. The coffee is warm, the kids are excited, and there is no pressure to dress up quite yet.
If jeans seem too structured (or constricting) for your holiday vibes, go with structured sweatpants or stylish joggers, a white T-shirt, and a nice cardigan.
Whatever your style or event, it’s easy to bring comfort and coziness to your holiday attire. For more ideas and options, visit Sassyfras at Eising Garden Centre, and we’ll make sure you are your most comfortable for Christmas!
Will today be hot or cold? Honestly, who knows? Knowing how to layer your clothes for November weather can be tricky, but here are some great tips to keep you cool (or cozy).
Dressing during the fall and early winter months can be some of the trickiest. The weather can change in an instant and you’ll need to be ready to add or take off layers at any given moment. Thank goodness for layers! Layering is perfect because you can always take one off to cool down, but you’ll never be too cold. Besides, it gives you a chance to show off your favourite cold-weather pieces!
The Basics of Layering ClothesIn some ways, layering the perfect cold-weather outfit comes down to a formula. While you can always use a variation of this, it’s a good place to start!
Layer 1: A basic tank top, camisole, or thin shirt with short or long sleeves.
Layer 2: A shirt with a collar. You could try a solid-coloured shirt, plaid, or denim.
Layer 3: Add a warm and stylish sweater like a cardigan, pullover, or vest. Let the collar from layer 2 pop out!
Layer 4: Your last layer will be the heaviest and warmest layer. Check the forecast and decide between a puffer coat, vest, wool coat, or a denim jacket.
Autumn hues are one of the best parts of the chilly season. Rich reds, maroons, mustard, greens, camel, and earthy tones shine during fall, but try to think outside the box and choose an unexpected colour palette, too.

Monochromatic Mood: Monochromatic doesn’t just mean black or white, you can create an entire outfit based on a colour you adore. For example, if you’re obsessed with green, mix and match your fall outfit layers in hues of green like emerald, sage, and olive.
Vibrant Vibes: Even if the days are dreary, you can still be bright by adding a bit bold with the layers of your outfit. Choose a bright collared shirt for a small pop of colour under a sweater, or go big with a bomber jacket.
Earthy Essentials: Layer your favourite fall-toned clothes to embody the spirit of autumn! There’s no shortage of fall and winter clothing in earthy shades that remind us of falling leaves and beautiful forests. Don’t forget your accessories! Look for jewelry and footwear in fall shades like burgundy, sage, mustard, and camel.
Party in a CardiLayering with a fun cardigan is one way to add excitement to your cold-weather clothes. Cardigans also come in so many fun patterns and textures, and you can find them in almost every type of knit and fabric. You’ll never be bored with your fall and winter wardrobe if it’s filled with these versatile pieces!
Whether you’re attending a fall wedding or just love wearing dresses year-round, you’ll want to know how to layer all of your clothes to stay warm and trendy.
We hope these tips can help you stay warm, cozy, and trendy this fall. If you’re looking for fall and winter clothes in Simcoe, visit our Sassyfras boutique. We’re bursting with seasonal looks that we’d love to see you walk out with!
As we transition our closets from summer to fall, it can be tricky putting trendy, cozy, and warm outfits together. Never fear, the Sassyfras Boutique is here! Here are some must-have items and trends to fill your closet with great fall outfits this season.
While fall may not be a time where we get to grow our favourite plants, we can incorporate them into cute fall outfits instead! Bring nature into your wardrobe with bold floral patterns or something more minimalist. You can think beyond the florals, too. Botanical prints can include green foliage, mushrooms, acorns, and herbs. Go big and colourful with prints, or find a comfy sweater with delicate botanical embroidery. You can customize your favourite fall plant outfits just like your own garden!
Nothing says “fall” more than natural fabrics like linen and cotton. Warm, cozy, and eco-friendly, natural fabrics in earth-tone shades never go out of style. Incorporate natural fabrics into cute fall outfits by choosing a linen or cotton dress, linen trousers, or a simple, soft, cozy cotton tee. Natural fabric dyeing is also very trendy right now, which can be a super fun fall DIY project. There are tons of DIY videos online to help you beautifully dye your own natural fabric clothing.
Some of the best colour trends this fall are also some of the tastiest garden treats! Peach and rhubarb, and every shade in between, are the must-have fall colours. Incorporate these fall colours into your outfits to create a cute and monochromatic look. If you’re hoping for a more subtle feel, you can use these colours in unexpected ways to refresh fall outfits. Try finding brooches, scarves, or collars decorated with peach and rhubarb accents.
We love to see the vests! While they went into hibernation for a time, they are back and better than ever. Vests can be so comfortable and perfect for layering. With a surge in the “academia” style, adding a vest to many outfits brings a layer of cuteness, intelligence, and mystery this fall. You can choose a puffy vest for your outdoor adventures, a knitted one in your fav fall colour, or add a denim one to your ‘casual Friday’ office outfits for a little autumnal chic.
It’s never been a better time to be Canadian! Pull out your vintage Canadian tuxedo and pile on the denim. While you may not want to go full denim (although we have no doubts you could pull it off!), you can start small with a classic denim jacket, jeans in any wash you want, or some adorable overalls.
As the weather cools, try adding some fall-friendly tones to your cute outfits. A shade of yellow was awarded Pantone’s colour of the year for 2021, so we know there will be no shortage of yellow options for your fall wardrobe. Mustard, gold, and emerald green add rich colour and complement the fall backdrop perfectly. Try pairing a mustard cardigan, gold jewellery, and a green velvet skirt for a chic fall outfit. Or, mix and match just a few pieces for a subtle look.
No matter what cute fall trends you put together for your go-to autumn outfits, it’s always a good idea to layer up. While layering is a trend in itself, it’s also just a smart way to handle the Canadian weather. Long-sleeved tops, vests, cardigans, and tights are a few key items to transform your closet into tons of comfy, warm, fall-friendly outfits.
Visit our Sassyfras boutique to shop around and fill your closet with simple, fall outfits. If you have any questions about fall basics in Simcoe, come visit us at Eising Garden Centre. We’d love to help you with fashion, plant care, and landscaping!
Figuring out how to dress your body type makes shopping for women’s clothing much more fun and stress-free! The female physique clearly isn’t the same across all women; it’s unique and distinctive, with different proportions and shapes. That’s why some outfits look amazing on some gals and not-so-stellar on others. But don’t worry—no matter which shape you have, there are certain pieces that are bound to look absolutely amazing on you! You just need to know what to look for.

The key to picking flattering women’s clothing is figuring out how to accentuate certain areas to keep things looking proportioned and occasionally minimizing the parts that draw attention. There’s nothing wrong with having a large bust, booty, or tummy, but a sense of visual balance can help you feel more confident.
When you learn how to dress for your body type, it makes such a difference in how you feel when you’re out on the town, posing for photographs, or meeting new people. At the end of the day, you should wear what makes you feel happy, but dressing stylishly can give your self-esteem a nice boost! Find your body type below so you can get started.
Description: Women with a straight shape tend to have similar hip, waist, and shoulder measurements. Weight is evenly distributed, and curves aren’t especially pronounced.
How To Dress: Straight figures look great in tops with sleeveless, racerback straps, halter tops, or slim-fitting sleeves. It flatters your arms, creating an athletic and toned look. Scoop necks and round necklines help to subtly emphasize the bust, and the curved lines really help to amp up the curviness!
Mid-rise pants and women’s jeans with bootcut or flared legs can help add some curves as well, and lucky for you, they’re coming back in style in a big way! Our wide-leg cinnamon pants will cinch your waist and flatter the booty—add our white floral scoop neck tee and tuck it in, and you’re good to go!
Women with straight body types tend to not have much trouble figuring out how to pick the right dress for formal occasions. Pretty much all dress styles look great on straight bodies! However, dresses with a seam at the natural waist and a slight flare to the skirt can create the illusion of a more hourglass shape. Our breezy spaghetti strap dress has a tapered neckline and a floral skirt, effectively highlighting your top and bottom while minimizing the middle.
Description: If you have a pear shape, you’ll be a bit fuller in the hips, rear, and thigh area and smaller in the bust and shoulders.
How To Dress: If you’ve got it, flaunt it! Pants and skirts that show off your bootylicious figure are fun to wear and look especially stellar if you pair them with the right pieces. Pencil skirts, high-waisted pants, and bootcut jeans will flatter your shape in all the right places. To balance out your shape, V-necks, dramatic necklines, and puff sleeve blouses bring more volume to the top. Try our dark wash denim pencil skirt paired with our coral V-neck tee—it’s comfy and casual while still looking tailored and feminine.
Playing with colours and patterns can flatter pear shapes as well. Light-coloured tops paired with darker jeans help to create a sense of visual balance. Horizontal striped tops can emphasize the bust, and pinstripe pants can minimize your bottom—though we don’t recommend pairing the two different stripes together! Our horizontal striped tee looks amazing with our coal-washed jeans. Throw on our cinch-waist vest overtop to add volume to the bust without drawing attention to your tummy.
Description: Your hips are narrow relative to your shoulders and bust, and you carry more of your body weight around your tummy rather than your hips, rear, and thighs.
How To Dress: Drawing attention to your more slender calves, and wearing loose, breezy tops will flatter your apple-shaped figure. Slim-cut jeans and skirts and trendy ankle-length pants will make those legs look long and lean! Try to avoid thin, clingy fabrics, and instead, try more structured materials like denim or linen. They’re natural and breathable, so you won’t feel uncomfortable on warm days. V-neck shirts are also great for elongating the torso—try our V-neck multicoloured blouse in an ultra-flattering print that’s super forgiving. Throw on our straight-leg jeans, and you’ll be runway ready!
When it comes time to dress up, you can never go wrong with an A-line little black dress. Every woman needs a good quality, versatile LBD in their closet. The A-line shape minimizes the tummy while emphasizing the shoulders and hips. We love the contrasting white tribal print on our new summer LBD—it adds a little more personality and attitude to this classic wardrobe staple.
Description: You’ve got hip and bust measurements that are nearly equal, but your waist measurement is several inches smaller, creating a va-va-voom silhouette that looks drop-dead gorgeous if you know how to highlight it properly.
How To Dress With An Hourglass Body Type:
When you’ve got a tinier waist and a bigger bust, you don’t want to wear boxy, loose styles, or you’ll be drowning in fabric! Cinch that middle with structured, fitted garments, belted waists, and high-waisted pants. For your top, you can either go with something light and flowy that tucks in or something more tailored and fitted. Flared and bootcut jeans and pretty much any leggings will look awesome on your curvy silhouette. Our leaf motif tank has a cute, asymmetrical, cinched waist, and it’s a perfect match for our navy blue leggings.
For dresses, hourglass figures look lovely in most styles, but it’s best to avoid straight-cut shift dresses, empire waistlines that sit right below the bust, or balloon skirts. Our blue floral dress is as comfy as can be, so it brings in the waist and flatters your curves without making you feel sucked in or stiff. The material is light yet loose, so it drapes beautifully without adding volume or squeezing too tight.

With school back in session and summer 2020 coming to an end, now is the perfect time to refresh your wardrobe for fall. Picking out some sweet new threads always seems to bring an extra little burst of motivation and pep in your step. We scoured fashion mags and trend forecasts to find out what styles are on the horizon for fall, and then carefully curated an amazing collection for the Sassyfras Boutique. Start the season off right with some of these trend-savvy looks from our Ontario fall 2020 wardrobe collection.
Denim will always be a timeless staple for any fall wardrobe, but the key to rocking it is making sure your style is modern and fresh! This year, we’re all about the straight leg and skinny leg styles, and we’re ditching the bootcut and baggy jeans. Straight cut jeans make your gams look long and lean, which is always a bonus! Plus, they’re easy to dress up or down, depending on what kind of footwear you go for. Skinny jeans and ballet flats or heels are a surprisingly chic combo! We just got a brand new shipment from Jag Jeans, so if you want some great quality denim that lasts, hurry over and try some on before stock runs out!

We’ve got some fabulous denim coats in store as well, and lately we’ve been seeing a lot of dresses and skirts paired up with denim coats to dress them down a bit. Lately, with fewer events and fancy occasions to attend, we don’t have as many excuses to wear our fluttery dresses and skirts, but sometimes it’s kinda fun to wear them for everyday wear! By layering a denim jacket over top, you can keep things casual, but still a little flirty and fun.
It shouldn’t come as a shock that we’re all about the floral prints—we are attached to a garden centre, after all! While we usually associate florals with spring and summer, you can still totally rock them in the fall if you choose the right colour palette. Rich, deeper colours feel more of-the-season, so instead of the typical spring pastels and vibrant summer neons, transition to jewel-toned patterns. Our A-line midi skirt by Tribal has a stunning rose print with splashes of rich plum, amber, spruce, and burgundy, overlaid on charcoal chiffon, resulting in a super versatile piece that can easily transition from day to night.

Ditch the old hoodies and worn out cardigans and try something a little more daring! Statement kimonos and patterned overcoats with geometric prints are an easy way to add some attitude and artistic flair to an otherwise casual outfit. Put on a simple pair of jeans and a black tank top, layer on our new Tribal kimono, and you’ve got yourself an effortlessly cool outfit. They pair especially well with a long, dangly necklace and a couple of stacked bracelets.
Tailored coats with an androgynous vibe are blowing up the runways right now, and we really love when those pieces feature rich, warm tones that complement your autumn wardrobe. It’ll be golden hour all day long in our new mustard jacket that practically glows in the sunlight. Though the colour is quite vibrant, it’s surprisingly versatile, and pairs well with plenty of other cute fall colours like burgundy, navy, plum, charcoal, and the two hottest colours of the season: cafe au lait and chocolate brown.

There are so many more incredible styles coming into the store, so follow us on Instagram to catch updates on our latest looks. We’ve got fabulous designs from b.Young, Fransa, Dex Plus, Parsley & Sage, and LNBF—a comfy, casual collection featuring luxurious bamboo fabrics.
